In Oman, flash floods cause infrastructural damage amounting to millions of dollars each year. These flash floods typically occur during the monsoon season from mid-June to mid-September. The hydrometric conditions in the Sultanate needed to be better understood in order to establish flood prevention and mitigation measures.
In collaboration with ECO Environmental, H2i developed a Hydrometric Information Management System and delivered it to the Sultanate of Oman’s Ministry of Regional Municipalities and Water Resources in November 2017.
Hosted on the Ministry’s web servers , the system provides real-time monitoring of water levels and rainfall across the country.
The data it gathers also allows the Ministry to plan effective flood prevention and mitigation measures.
H2i’s customised Operational Management Systems harness the power of big data for better water management. They are also used for weather advisory services in Brunei Darussalam, for the monitoring and modelling of coastal waters in Singapore, and for water management systems in the city-state.
